I got the same approach using the same email. Below is what he sent me! This is very recent just now!
Hi Elvie,
I am glad to hear from you, how are you today? I got your email from LinkedIn.
I know you probably may be wondering why I contacted you out of the blue but I did state in my last email that I'd like to know you. Like the saying goes "There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven't yet met" and I hope you will give me a fair chance to be a friend to you.
I am not actually looking for any business opportunity. I stumbled on your profile and couldn't help not connecting you. LinkedIn, as we all know, is a professional website but sometimes in life, we must cross our boundaries to explore in a positive way and not to harm anyone. I'm willing to tell you about myself so you can know me but I just do not want you to be upset about my manner of approach. If you are not upset I'll be very happy but if you are, I will not bother you and will completely respect your opinion.
By the way, I am Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Vitiello, of the Us Army, I will tell you more about myself when I get your response and it's nice to meet you.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,

Hi I am from Papua New Guinea, got a same message from Roberto Vitiello US army Colonel Robertovitiello50@gmail.com
he is on instagram as david nikola!!!!OMG
ReplyDeleteI can't find it.. do you have the username please?
Deletedavidnikol221 and check wa652140 he is a scammer too!!! you will recognize him when you see his picture! On his list of people he is following you will find more scammers using stolen pictures!!!
DeleteSame old faces, same old scams !!! Thanks very much, they will be reported and hopefully they will go soon.
DeleteThere is another scammer out there going by lieutenant colonel Roberto Lucas Vitiello and impersonating Stephen Murphy. He is claiming to be in Kabul Afghanistan on a resolute mission since 2014. He is a widower from Houston Texas with a 19 year old son also in the army but stationed in South Korea.
ReplyDeleteIs this on FB as I can't find it... their stories are ridiculous !! I wish they would get nobody to talk to !!!
DeleteThat Roberto Vitiello that someone on here is also on LinkedIn with several fake profiles. Messaged me yesterday wanting to ‘make friends’. Posing as a US Army Officer. Seriously?!? What’s worrying is that my work IT security quarantined a dangerous email makes as scam shortly after I responded asking what industry they were in since it’s a professional network. Is there anything that can be done about this? Impersonating military can’t be good.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think we are here ! And have been for YEARS.. impersonating military is not good.. we know this and the men used know this. BUT no, at the moment nothing is being done.
DeleteWe work to change hearts and minds. Sadly that is all we can do and we will keep being here until changes are made and they have to come from the top. I hope they happen
He emailed me this roberto vitiello claimining to be from US Army..he go by email vitrob558@gmail.com...he was saying he is a widowed for 10yrs and stationed in Afghanistan. he took my profile in linkedin with a name John R. Vit ....I don't know what he wants he said he wants to be friends etc..
DeleteHe isn't real... this is a scam... if you will not take my advice and block run at the first sign of money
DeleteI got the same email as I did not know that is scam profile till I did the research! I have my scammer cover story on my radio show program with scammer research also a lawyer in USA live in Japan. You can check our radio show copy on my patreon site; https://www.patreon.com/posts/32784038

Hello, I got the same Roberto Vitiello from LinkedIn, wants to be a friend, even sent me photos of himself, so I Googled this name and title only to find NOTHING that matched. Honestly via LinkedIn are not safe any where. The profile on linkedIn is empty, and there's a few of them as well... People be careful.
DeleteLinkedin has always had a problem ! They don't seem to do much when reported to them but yes. it is bad there ! But it is bad everywhere
DeleteThank you Scam Hunters United, at least we have some one looking out for US, if I see any more, I will share, alert people. Take care every one.
DeleteWe are called United for a reason.. teamwork ! it works well and this is how we fight scammers .. thank you
DeleteHi everybody! I'm from Uruguay and I got the exact same e-mail from this Roberto Vitiello. He said he got my e-mail address from LinkedIn and wanted to be friends with me. Then he wrote a long e-mail telling a whole story about him and he sent me two pictures of himself. I suspected it was a scam because why on earth would a US Officer want to become friends with a stranger from Uruguay?! Also, I couldn't find him on Google or on LinkedIn. My e-mail address is only available for my direct contacts on LinkedIn so I don't know how he got it in the first place. Then I found his name here. Fortunately I didn't get to share any personal info with him. Thank you for this website! I'm sure it has prevented many people from being scammed!
DeleteThank you so much for that. It means a lot when people search and find.
DeleteThank you for the kind words
Is there any way we can compare pictures?
DeleteI got the same email from Roberto Vitiello claiming to be a Lt Colonel in the US Army stationed in Kabul.
DeleteAnyone that contacts you and claims military is fake.
DeleteThey are never allowed to tell you where they are deployed.
They are not allowed to do it, they do not do it.
ALL are criminals, thieves from West Africa using stolen pictures of MIlitary Personnel.
Also ALL Doctors are fake, the United Nations does not put Doctors in wars.
Robert has been busy! I got the same message on March 18, 2020. He found my work email off of linkedin. Wrote a long message with some odd word choices and sentence structure and sent pictures. I figured it was just some jerk using Linkedin like Tinder.
DeleteI will check it out and than you for leaving the information
ReplyDeleteNot sure what you mean but you can email me on scamhatersunited@gmail.com
DeleteI have received the same email from Roberto. I was very suspicious at the beginning. He sounded truly genuine. His English was perfect. And after a few convincing emails, I started telling him about myself. No private information. Just a general conversation about being a mother, loving to cook....I did send him pics of me that were already on Facebook. Should I be worried?
ReplyDeleteYes.. they don't get them for nothing. General chat.. your life, your birthday, your age.. where you live... all helps him know you and work on identity theft.
DeletePictures will be used in future scams. They do not get them for nothing !
Never answer emails... and never tell a stranger anything. It is NEVER innocent.
Hello people! I just wanna share the same experience with Roberto. He sent me the same email like you all. I was suspicious, then googled him and found this.
ReplyDeleteHe was good at writting email to people, it seems he didnt even have any bad intention.
So this is one of his emails i hope everyone being more cautious with stranger.

The bad intentions are .. it is fake... Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Vitiello, of the Us Army, is not contacting you and this is all to steal from you. The intentions can't get much more bad than that.
DeleteSame thing just happened to me with this Roberto character. What should I do? Can I block him? Report him?
ReplyDeleteAll you can do is block and not talk to it ,.. thank you

they can ruin every website.. thank you very much for this information. I am glad you checked and found out about this
DeleteRob is a very smooth operator. He will tell you he is widowed with a 14 year old daughter in boarding school. Born in Italy. Only child and immigrated to the USA with his American born mother as a child. No siblings. Both parents died.... mom of lung cancer, dad of dementia. Has been in Afghanistan for almost 2 years. Cannot phone you orvideo chat because of security concerns on base. He tried to get money from me, claiming he accidentally hit a 14 year old child with a Jeep while racing back to the base. Took her to a private hospital and needs to pay for her care.... but his account is blocked. Sent me a picture of the child....except it was one of a 4 year old with a broken arm and not back injuries. I messed with his head for about 5 months until he suddenly stopped communicating. Prefers email or Hangouts as a way to communicate. Claims he does not have a phone. His communications will match up to the time zone difference.
ReplyDelete'Rob' is an African scammer working from a Format, or script.
DeleteSorry you feel you had to keep talking to scammers for FIVE MONTHS.. what good scamming practice he had in that time. He would have learned a lot from you.. free scammer tuition, priceless.
Sorry but we try to get scammers to have nobody to speak and 'mess with his head'... no you played with scammer for 5 months.
You say he is a smooth operator, victims come to us and say 'he was really good'', WELL HOW DO YOU THINK THEY GET GOOD.. ??
Practice.. plenty of practice with women refusing not to speak to scammers.
REALLY WHY DO WE BOTHER?>
